Must Buy Things From The City of Canals, Venice

Venice enchants tourists with the beauty of its canals and iconic bridges. The historic Doge Palace is perfect to captivate the attention of travelers keen to know the history of the place. While taking the Gondola ride, we gracefully explored the narrow waterways, passing the colorful facades and historic buildings. When we walked through the lanes and reached St. Mark’s Square, we saw the vibrant yet casual life of the locals.

The quaint cafes and artisan shops are perfect for tasting the food and exploring the art and crafts of the city. The city offers a sneak peek of past and present, where every turn offers a discovery. Venice is a living, breathing masterpiece. One should visit Venice at least once in a lifetime for a breathtaking experience.

Wherever we visit, it is a must for us to shop for something unique from that place. Have you not been to Venice and want to know what you can buy from there when you visit? If yes, here is a list of 10 things worth collecting when you travel to Venice.

Murano Glass

I picked a vase for my home decor and three pendants from Murano Island. I witnessed the session where the glass artists made a beautiful horse in front of the tourists, just like magic. Hats off to the skills of the artists. Exploring Venice is incomplete without a visit to Murano Island.

Burano Lace

Burano comes after Murano and so on the same day we explored Murano and Burano. Burano is known for its age-old tradition of needle-lace making. The headquarters of Martina Vidal Venezia is located in Burano and is one of the renowned Burano lace-making companies.

I wished to carry a souvenir back home from Burano. I picked two small beautiful lacework frames. One is a Venezian Mask, and another a butterfly. Both frames made their place in my showcase.

Fabrics

A good souvenir from Venice can be fabrics. The showroom and shop of a historic family business near the Canal Grande sells beautiful fabric, damasks, cushions, Gobelins, curtains, drapes for dining tables, chairs, and more. Rubelli Venezia is a well-known global trendsetter in the textile design industry today. Wool, silk, linen, and cotton are the fabrics they use.

The results are a visual feast. Rubelli ships its textiles to more than 50 nations. These textiles are made using a very intricate and one-of-a-kind procedure. Because the Rubelli store is located in a palace, visiting it is an incredibly romantic experience. I preferred not to buy the fabric as it was a bit expensive, and for Indian tailors, it’s difficult to make a dream outfit from it. But If you have the budget, then go for it.

Venetian Mask

Shopping in Venice is incomplete without buying Venetian Mask. You will get that in multiple sizes, from big to small. It can be a wonderful souvenir to take back home and to gift your near and dear ones. If you wish to buy some masks, walk along the local stores by the side of Rialto Bridge, at San Polo.

I picked a few small-sized masks for gifting and decor needs. You can bargain a little if you have expertise, but most prices remain fixed. From the same shop where I purchased masks, I selected a Venetian Costume doll. It’s so adorable.

Gondolier’s Hat

When you go around Venice, you’ll notice men operating gondolas wearing hats. This particular style of straw hat allows one to keep their head cool in hot weather since it is air-permeable. The wide brim protects against the sun, and it makes the hat look attractive.

The only maintenance required is to shield the cap from excessive humidity. One of the most well-liked souvenirs that visitors frequently purchase while in Venice is a straw hat. Along with the hat I also picked, a small Gondolier Souvenior for my collection.

Bellini

Bellini is the iconic cocktail of Venice and was introduced about 80 years ago. The man behind the invention was Giuseppe Cipriani. He was the founder of the famous Harry’s Bar located near San Marco Square. It’s a must-try if you are in Venice and trust me you will love it.

The key ingredients are peaches and Prosecco. For close family members or friends, a bottle of Bellini can be a wonderful gift.

There are many other things worth buying from Venice if you have the space in your bag and the budget to shop. The list I shared above is worth buying to take back home the unforgettable memories of Venice.
