This space adventure flick directed by Ridley Scott is based on a novel written by Andy Weir and having the same name. The film has Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig playing the main roles. The movie, whose screenplay has been written by Drew Goddard, has been released in theatres on 2nd Oct 2015.
The story revolves around Mark Watney played by Matt Damon, a botanist/astronaut who is accidentally left behind on Mars during a manned expedition to the red planet, after being presumed dead by his crew. However, Mark is very much alive and stranded alone on a hostile planet millions of miles away from Earth. Determined to go back to his native planet, Mark uses his meager supplies and his wit, ingenuity and spirit to find a way to send a signal to the Earth that he is alive. Back home, the scientists at NASA and a team of international science experts are trying every effort to bring Mark back home. At the same time, his crew plans a daring and seemingly impossible mission to rescue their teammate and the people of the world unite in a bid to ensure the safe return of The Martian.
Ridely Scott has done a great job of directing the fast-moving, streamlined script of Goddard into a movie that creates a perfect balance between science and entertainment. The star cast, especially Matt Damon has given a great performance to the realistic appeal to the movie. The movie tends to send out the inspiring message of solving ones problems with the available resources rather than sit mulling over them.
The Martian is a must watch movie especially in the backdrop of the new discoveries about the planet and IndiaCafe24 gives it a rating of 4 stars.
