Even as the film fraternity of India, along with countless fans, was coming to terms with the passing on of versatile actor Irfan Khan, the nations woke up to another tragic news from the industry. Early Thursday morning brought with it the devastating news of the demise of Rishi Kapoor, the original chocolate boy of Hindi cinema. The actor, who had been diagnosed with leukemia in 2018, was admitted to the HN Reliance hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening, where he breathed his last at around 8:45 am on Thursday morning. According to sources, the actor continued to entertain the hospital staff until the very end.

Rishi Kapoor was born into the first family of the Indian cinema and was the grandson and son of legendary actors Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor respectively. He made his acting debut when he was only three years old in a cameo role in Raj Kapoor classic Shri 420. He essayed the role of Raj Kapoor’s younger self in another cult classic of Raj Kapoor, named Mera Naam Joker. His first leading role was against Dimple Kapadia in the 1973 movie Bobby, which went on to become the biggest hit of the decade. The movie went on to set the tone for the kind of roles that Rishi Kapoor was to play in the majority of his future films. He was the first choice to play the fun-loving romantic hero in some of the most successful light-hearted comedies.
Known for his outspoken nature, his charming personality and his love for food, Rishi Kapoor was a complete entertainer to the core. His mere presence on the screen spread a sense of happiness and pleasure among the audience. Even though he was mostly typecast as a romantic hero, his acting talent was truly versatile. His recent movies such as Mulk, remake Agneepath and Kapoor and Sons, helped in bringing out his as yet unexplored acting talent. He was loved and cherished by fans spanning multiple generations and was especially known for his great connectivity with the masses. His on-screen antics and his unique sense of style besides his great looks placed him in the hearts of millions of fans across the globe.

Rishi Kapoor is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, daughter Riddima and son Ranbir Kapoor. As the news of his demise spread, the entire Bollywood went into a state of shock, which was enhanced by the fact that his death came within just 24 hours of the demise of another cinematic legend Irfan Khan. In a statement released by them, the Kapoor family said that the actor remained jovial and showed a willingness to live life to the fullest during the two years when he underwent the treatment for his cancer. The statement also said that the actor was thankful for the love showered on him by his fans and would like to be remembered with a smile rather than with tears.
