Yellow Tape And Coffee By Pat Luther
A Book Offering A Perfect Blend Of Sci-fi, Suspense And Horror
There are not many books that combine sci-fi, horror, and suspense. But yet it turns out to be a great reading experience. Thankfully, Pat Luther’s debut novel named Yellow Tape And Coffee sores well on all the above parameters. Despite having the over-explored theme of werewolves as an integral part of the storyline, the author has managed to present the same in a truly refreshing and interesting manner.
Premise:
The book narrates the tale of multiple individuals from different backgrounds and has different views. Their paths are intertwined. Now they are forced by circumstances to become a part of a centuries-old war. It’s a war between humans and werewolves. The motley group consists of Veer, an investigative reporter, Carl a young werewolf, Gordon, a man who got targeted after his daughter got murdered. In addition to this, we have Michael Diaz, a homicide detective, Victor, the alpha wolf of Portland, and Toni, a young girl who got attacked by a werewolf during her camping trip. Each of these individuals is somehow involved in a 400-years-old fight. It was the struggle to keep the existence of a secret society of werewolves hidden.
Character Development:
The writer has done a great job. He developed each character in a manner that makes them look relatable. Be it Veer or Gordon or Victor or Carl, every character adds value to the story. The characters are based on a strong, and valid background.
Story:
The story is a fantasy thriller that draws parallels to the societal issues of modern times. Despite being a long book covering over 700 pages, it is full of action and thrill and keeps the readers engaged till the end.
Writing style:
The book has been written beautifully. It boasts of a smooth and fast-paced narrative till the very last page. Even though the story is narrated from multiple points of view, the author has been able to maintain a smooth transition.
The design of the cover page and even its title may seem irrelevant to the plotline initially. Well, this notion is put to rest once the readers finish reading the book.
Final Verdict:
This is great book for people who love action and suspense and I give it 4.5/5.
