Writing books with genre crossover themes can be quite challenging, which is why only a handful of writers explore this option. Even then the result is often not quite satisfying although there are quite a few exceptions to this. In Loving Memory is one such book written by Daniel Paul Singh that has proved that when handled in the right manner, a genre crossover book can be truly successful and delightful.
Plot:
Dhruv and Nisha work in the same office and while Nisha is initially irked by Dhruv’s impulsive antics, the two gradually fall in love. Srinivas, falls in love with his childhood friend, Rimi, a lively, strong and fearless girl, who accepts his proposal. However, the two couples soon start facing hurdles in their relationship and paths cross with an unfortunate turn of events. Then a gruesome murder takes place and the best detective in the town is hired to solve the case. However, the case is not as simple as it appears and leaves even Kevin baffled and shocked with the way things are being unfolding.
Character Development:
The book focuses on five main characters of Dhruv, Nisha, Nivas, Rimi, and Kevin and each of them plays an important role in the story. All the characters are well developed and each of them has faced problems in their life and they are trying to cope up with it in their own way.
Story:
The story presents a deadly combination of being both plot-driven and character-driven. The book is divided into two parts with the first part, titled IN LOVE, narrates the two parallel love stories and the second part, titled IN MEMORY deals with the crime mystery in which the two couples get entangled somehow. The author has also provided an alternate ending, though I like the current one more.
Writing style:
The writing style is very gripping and the flow of the story is great. The language is extremely straightforward and clear which makes it very beginner-friendly. This makes the book difficult to put down once you have started reading it.
The cover page has been beautifully and thoughtfully designed and gives a vibe of romance with all the dark undertones going on, besides which it has a thrilling tone to it. I feel that it perfectly matches the tone and theme of the books and adds value to it.
Final Verdict:
This is a good book for beginners and readers in general read and I give it 4/5.
