Book Review of Interstellar Megachef by Lavanya Lakshminarayan

Interstellar Megachef – A Unique Science-Fiction Themed Around The Love For Good Food

Amazon

I have always loved science fiction as it transports me into a futuristic world where everything seems possible. Combining this genre with culinary arts to create a unique book is a big challenge for any author.

However, Lavanya Lakshminarayan has successfully fulfilled this challenge. Her efforts have led to the creation of the book – Interstellar Chef, which offers a perfect combination of science fiction and good food.

Premise: Interstellar Megachef

With her cooking career on Earth in a downward spiral, Saraswati Kaveri, fondly called Saras, has no other option but to participate in the galaxy’s prestigious cooking show Interstellar Megachef. The only problem is that no one from Earth has ever competed on the show till now. However, a determined Saras manages to immigrate to planet Primus along with her flying robot, Kili, and her culinary skills. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the galaxy, Serenity Ko, a corporate prodigy who is also extremely cute, has landed in trouble with the law. So, she is forced to take a mandatory leave for two weeks to restore her work-life balance. A chance meeting between Saras and Ko in an air taxi gives the latter a brilliant idea that can revolutionize the food industry across the universe.

Character Development: Interstellar Megachef

The author has done a great job of developing the characters delightfully. Be it Saras, her robot Kili, or even the high-powered Ko, the presentation of each character was truly amazing. Ko’s high-strung behavior and Saraswati’s headstrong attitude are reflected naturally throughout the book. Yet their qualities and characters help to make them stay grounded and memorable.

Plot: Interstellar Megachef

The story is set in a world two thousand years from now, where the galactic beings freely interact. Yet, in this futuristic world too, issues of classism and racism exist just like today. In this world, the cooking practices of Earth people are considered backward and barbaric. The book also focuses on culture and the importance of food in its growth and development. But most importantly, it highlights the never-give-up attitude of two women from completely different strata whom society has given up on. And yet, these women are determined to overcome the disasters they have faced and get back from their defeats.

Writing Style: Interstellar Megachef

The book reflects the great penmanship of Lavanya Lakshminarayan. The book starts by laying out a bolstering narrative, raising serious questions about the origins of culture and its dominance. The language is simple and the pace is fast, keeping the readers interested until the very end. The readers feel like they are watching the events rather than reading about them, which is the biggest USP of the book.

Final Verdict: Interstellar Megachef

I thoroughly enjoyed Interstellar Megachef and recommend it to every science fiction and food lover. I give it a rating of 4.5/5.
