I have always admired and loved books that tell a thrilling tale and that is why Blood in the Paradise caught my attention almost immediately. This book written by Madhav Mahidhar, creates the atmosphere of crime, suspense and excitement as soon you get it in your hands. The cover page reflects the theme of the tale that is enclosed within its pages, making an ardent lover of thrilling novels, like me, to immediately position themselves on the couch and enjoy a fulfilling read.
The book tells the tale of Madhumita, a successful corporate woman and the mother of twin girls, who decides to commit suicide. As she consumes the fatal concoction of potassium cyanide, honey and water, her, husband Vikas arrives on the scene and takes Madhumita to the hospital. It is then reveled that while Madhumita is still struggling for her life, Vikas has breathed his last at the hospital due to cyanide poisoning. The police suspect Madhumita of foul play and also believe that her feminist friend Anu has been aiding and abetting her. However, given the absolute lack of proof and the alibi that Madhumita intended to commit suicide herself, there is nothing much that they can do about it.
Madhav Mahidhar has come out with a splendid tale of a seemingly impossible crime that keeps the readers on their edge till the very end. Despite being almost sure of who the culprit is, the helplessness of the police, and the realistic settings of trial by the law and the media, will surely make it impossible for the readers to keep the book down. Despite its slightly predictable and dramatic ending, the author has used a simple and lucid language and portrayed the characters really well, which add to its appeal.
Overall, I found Blood in the Paradise as a good read and wish Madhav Mahidhar all the best for its success.
