Teenage problems are experienced by every individual and then promptly forgotten once they reach adulthood. I was reminded of this fact recently when I came across a book named Ever After, which deals with the problems faced by a teenager. I was surprised by the fact that the book has been written by a 15-year-old schoolgirl, named Nitya Dalmia. This fact added to the appeal of the book for me and motivated me to review it.
Riya, a teenager, feels lost after having shifted from her old school of Woodstock to a mediocre one in the town of Surat. As she struggles to adjust to her new environment Riya develops a close friendship with Raynak, who later falls in love with her. Both teenagers are struggling with some issues which require them both to go through professional counseling sessions. Whether Riya moves on in life and reciprocates Raynak’s love and what hinders Raynak from letting Riya into her life forms the rest of the story.
First I need to complement Nitya for her ability to write a complete novel on a serious but often overlooked topic at such a young age. The story is relatable for teenagers on various levels and the simple language helps to make it easy to understand and interesting. Moreover, the story is presented from the perspective of both a boy and a girl, which again highlights the brilliance of the author and her understanding of this rather difficult topic.
