The name of the book, A Lot Like Love A Li’l Like Chocolate, was what inspired me to read the book at first. I felt that writer Sumrit Shahi had chosen the name to a sweet and chocolicous effect with this choice of title for his second book. The cover page of the book also created a similar feeling with its image of a lovers sitting under a cloud of dripping chocolate. Hence, it was with a relatively goody-goody feeling that I started reading the book.
Arnika meets Shadab when they are both in 12th standard and fall in love with each other. As their studies progress so does their love for one another grow stronger. However, soon after the boards, the two lovers find themselves at crossroads, with Arnika intending to move to New York for further studies while Shadab wants to shift to Delhi. So, the two decide to try having a long distance relationship and the new arrangement proves fine for the first few months. But then things change, resulting in misunderstandings and fights between the two. What remains to be seen is whether their love will prove stronger or whether the distance will end their relationship.
The one thing that I found really commendable about the book is the unique sense of humor with which the author has written it. Although the young author still lacks the skill of strong character building, his ability to present the story in short, witty and funny sentences needs to be praised. Sadly the story itself does not offer anything new or interesting but this should not be held against a 17 year old writer, who has tried to present a tale that is relevant to the present generation and times. Overall I found the book truly interesting and enjoyable and wish Sumrit great success with it.
