Akshaya Tritiya – The Best Day For Wealth Accumulation and donation According To Hindu Mythology
Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar, which is why it the perfect day to start something new or make an important purchase. It is also a reason why most Hindus choose to buy Gold on this day, as the metal is believed to be the harbinger of prosperity and good luck. However, purchasing gold is just one aspect of this festival, which is celebrated on the third day during bright fortnight of the Vaishakh month.
There are several legends associated with the festival of Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej. It is believed to be the birthday of Lord Parshurama, who in turn is considered to be the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that the holy river Ganga descended to Earth on this day. On this day, people offer special prayers and bathe in holy rivers besides offering donations to the poor and the needy. It is also common for people to worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi.
According to another legend, it is believed that Lord Brahma started creating the universe on this day and hence it marks the beginning of the Satya Yuga or the Golden era of human history as per Hindu mythology. It is also believed that Lord Ganesha started scripting the great epic of Mahabharata.
Yet another legend states that it was on this day that Lord Krishna, presented the Pandvas with the Akshay Parta, a special pot which produced unlimited food on demand, on this very day, during their period of exile.
In addition to the above legends, there is yet another story associated with this festival, which is also the most commonly accepted one. It is said that it was on this very day that Sudama, the poor Brahmin friend of Lord Krishna came to meet him with an offering of some fistfuls of satu.
The lord treated his friend like a God and accepted his gift of satu with great love. With each fistful of satu that Lord Krishna ate, Sudama’s economical condition improved drastically, without him knowing about it. Sudama, came to know about his the transformation in his fortune only when he reached back home to find his family dressed like royal people and living in opulence. This is the reason why the festival of Akshaya Tritiya is associated with the acquisition of wealth and material gains.
