The Plot of Taali
The series flags off with the childhood scenes of Shreegauri Sawant. Sushmita Sen played the role of Ganesh. Having lost his mother at a young age, Ganesh shares a tumultuous relationship with his father (Nandu Madhav). As the series progresses, Ganesh undergoes a sex change surgery. Now he become Gauri. The plot depicts how Gauri takes up the mantle of fighting for the rights of transgender people. She struggled to ensure equal rights and opportunities for the third-gender community. That what leads her to file a petition in the Supreme Court of India. The series depicts her heart wrenching struggles in her personal life. As an audience we can see her yearning for motherhood which is heartbreaking.
The Contribution of Writer and Director to Taali
The web series has been written by Kshitij Patwardhan and together with director Ravi Jadhav, he has done a great job of highlighting Gauri’s struggle for survival, identity, and equality. The story is well-researched and the team has approached the topic and the story with great honesty. The rousing screenplay is further enhanced by the compelling performances of the well-cast actors. Even though the details of the life of Gauri Sawant are present in the public domain, the writer-director duo have made it easier for people to perceive this information more realistically.
The Character Developments and Role Plays In Taali
Sushmita Sen gives her career-best performance as the transgender activist who spent her life fighting for justice. The way her character transforms, and her consistent struggle will bring tears for audience. She ensured that transgender people get their rightful place as humans in the society. The acting of Sushmita is truly inspiring. Gauri’s acceptance of her psychological and emotional confusion living in a conservative environment is well picturised. It is one key highlight of the series. It encouraged the audience to root for her. Her craving to be accepted as an assertive transwoman are emotionally bold and trailblazing. The character of Gauri’s father has also been presented exceptionally and his failure to support his young son through his struggles is well-portrayed. Every other character in the series is equally well-developed and presented realistically to leave a deep impact on the audience.
The Story Development of Taali
The story of Taali starts begins in the childhood of Shreegauri and covers the various important events and incidents that shaped her life through flashbacks. The series offers an sneak peek into the level of humiliation faced by transgender people. We can witness their mistreatment by society, and the bias. It is painful to see the unacceptance they face even while seeking basic facilities. With its heart in the right place and the career-best performance delivered by Sushmita Sen, Taali offers ample moments that make the viewers sit up and take note of the things that they often take for granted especially when it comes to the transgender community. The series kept the audience engagement till end. Many are of the opinion that it’s more like a docu-series than a biographical drama. But at Indiacafe24 we found it to be a realistic and on point bio-drama.
Final Verdict for Taali
Taali is a one of the realistic web series of recent time. Several questions raised in the series about the ethics and integrity of journalists. It’s the brilliance in Sushmita’s acting that gave the series a unique dimension and reach. We at IndiaCafe24 give the series a rating of 4.75 stars.

I was contemplating whether to see this or not. Sushmita’s character make-up is excellent for sure. Then I read Gauri’s ful background, I completely agree that the life of a transgender is really pitiable. They need to be included, and luckily, they are formally the third gender now. After reading your review, I wish i had jio cinema subscription, anyways, will find a way to see it.

Taali is a very poignant and moving series. Incidentally we just started watching it yesterday and have seen 2 episodes, Sushmita Sen excels in the role of a lifetime. Sandy N Vyjay
I just loved the series! And Sushmita Sen did full justice to the role she played! In fact the entire cast of the series has done a remarkable job in depicting the story of Shreegauri Sawant.
Sushmita Sen is my favourite I have yet to watch this but I have heard rave reviews and now your review seals it
I am going to watch it this weekend
Firstly, I an skeptical about watching this movie. My TV always notified me about the recent release. I was waiting for someone will help me to decide about watching the same.
I will definitely watch this movie after reading your blog, The legendary Sushmita acting is worth watching too..!!! though…!!!
I was truly moved by Taali’s storyline. It’s heartbreaking to witness the struggles that Shreegauri and the transgender community faced. The series shines a much-needed light on the harsh realities of their lives, and Sushmita Sen’s performance was simply exceptional.
I am so in love with this series that I can watch it again. The true story is the main attraction, while Sushmita’s acting is certainly praiseworthy. Till now, I have only considered her as a shallow actress with zero talent. I also loved the minute details that were looked into while the makeup of the actors was being done.
Just finished watching Taali’s biographical drama series and I’m blown away! This review perfectly captures the depth and brilliance of the show. A definite must-watch!
Thanks a lot for giving the heads up on this biographical web series- Taali talks about the journey of a transgender person overcoming odds not only for herself but for others in the same situations too.
It is not easy to take the road less traveled or to be the odd man or woman out, to go against the flow and stand against the social norms. It needs courage and it is a path strewn with thorns. My friends highly praised Susmita Sen’s performance and Ravi Jadhav’s script and now you too reinforce the point of view, so I think I should watch it too.
Awesome review dear. You write each tiny part in details. I must learn from you how to write a review. I saw Tali in one sitting because of Sushmita. She nailed it. Great movie and inspiring Gauri Sawant.
Hearing a lot about Taali but havent watched yet. I am not in the right frame of mind to do justice to such a powerful tale and acting by Sushmita. Kudos to her and your detailed review.
A few days back my mom was asking about this serires and here you are woth it. Waiting to watch this know Sushmita Sen she must have done an incredible job with this role.
While watching Taali I was constantly thinking about how privileged we are to have a life of our choice while they have to compromise everything to maintain their identity. Though the society is slowly changing there a lot yet to be changed for them to lead a life of respect and safety
I couldn’t stop myself from keep on looking at Sushmita to imbibe her each expression. Before I watched it I felt like they should have portrayed a transgender itself thus giving them a chance but once I watched hpw the movie came out I feel like because Sush many will watch the movie and their issues will be highlighted more.
Very detailed review. I haven’t watched it yet. Will do and share my feedback with you. Why has .25 been deducted from the rating? Just curious!

I have seen a few scenes of Talli here and there and Susmita Sen has done a really good job. After reading your review, I am more interested in watching the movie. We need more autobiography movies like these instead of those about actors and cricketers.
Sushmita Sen is an amazing actor and seeing her taking up important projects like this series show her immense calibre. I absolutely loved how you have reviewed the series without giving any spoilers. adding it to my watch list.

Through this series, I realised how painful is it for Transgender when we don’t treat them equally but glad that the producer was able to come up with this.
Now this is a kind of Indian movie that’s unique. I only got to appreciate Indian movies during the Pandemic as we ran out of Western movies to watch and surprisingly liked them. This though have a different, very different, I must say, storyline which makes it more interesting.
Taali seems to be so realistic and such films need to come that bring to the audience the struggles that third-gender people face in society. This seems to be a worthwhile watch which is essential for today’s society.
I have been looking forward to seeing the movie but haven’t had a chance yet. Sushmita Sen has acted brilliantly in the few scenes I have watched. We need more such movies, series, and books.
