I have memories of eating Ilish. Though I love the fish but its bones scare me into avoiding eating it. As a teenager, I was eating it very slowly and was the last one on the dining table struggling with the fine bones. Just when I got confident… one bone lodged itself in my back molars in a 90-degree position. Ouch, it was super painful and embarrassing! I had food in my mouth, tears in my eyes, and could not close my mouth due to the pain. Every time I tried the fine bone dug in more… Since then I just avoided it… I haven’t got the courage to try it again.
