My Dream Man is a just another love story that is told in a uniquely interesting manner. Not being a real fan of the romantic genre, I really did not expect the book to be so interesting and engaging, especially once I had seen its cover. The first impression I gained was that it would be another of those sweet and mushy romance tales that will follow an almost similar story line in different settings. But once I started reading the book, I realized that I was absolutely wrong.
My Dream Man is a relatively mature love story narrated in first person by the heroine, Ajopa Ganguly. Ajopa has two cherished dreams – the first of these is to become a published writer, which seems impossible as every publisher turns down her manuscript. The second involves her one time economics tutor, Aniket Verma, who is 12 years elder to her and with whom she shared a special bond of friendship. As Ajopa tries to cope with the pain of her creativity being rejected, Aniket comes back in her life with an interesting offer. Revealing what that offer is and how it will affect Ajopa’s relationship with Aniket, will be akin to doing injustice to Aditi’s talent.
I loved the way in which Aditi Bose has handled the subject of love blooming between a teacher and a student. The narrative is quite fluent, which ensured that I did not lose interest in the story for even a single moment. I also loved the simplicity of the language and the small twists that kept the story engaging till the very end. Although Aditi could have toned down the elaborate character building, it really did not bother me much.
Overall My Dream Man proved to be an interesting read for me, especially since I don’t like romantic novels. I wish Aditi all the very best for her future.
